Wilkinsons Farm Livery Yard was established in 1999 and is owned and managed by husband-and-wife team, Tim & Sheila Pilling. We offer high quality DIY livery in a friendly, supportive, peaceful environment that complements our natural approach to horse care. Over the years we have owned and cared for many horses and ponies. Our experience has proven time and again that horses and ponies thrive in an environment such as ours. Our simple holistic approach to equine care ensures the horses natural behaviours are met, and this results in healthy, relaxed happy horses. Our livery service is tailored around the 3 ”F’s” essential for the physical and mental wellbeing of the horses. These are:
- Friends
- Forage
- Freedom
We have the option of 24/7 turnout during the spring, summer and autumn months and daytime turnout during winter, maximising the time your horse can spend out in the field with their friends. Our winter turnout isn’t weather dependent. If you want to turnout you can. Yes it gets muddy, but the horses still benefit from foraging for winter grass, having social interaction and the opportunity to mutually groom and play in the fresh air. We believe horses thrive better in small herds and we have several same sex groups allowing the horses to fulfil their need to graze and have social interaction, mutual grooming and play. We put a great deal of time and effort into safely introducing new horses to their group and making sure the horses are a ’good fit’ for one another. We have many years experience and the time we take to select the most appropriate group for each horse and take time to settle them in to ensure smooth introductions is repaid 10-fold by how happy and content our horses are.
We make lovely homemade hay and only use old fashioned horse friendly grasses when we reseed/overseed. Our hay is made specifically for horses and is usually suitable for laminitics and those with EMS.
We operate a well managed compulsory Targeted Worming Programme, using worm egg counts and Equisal Saliva Tests. After a hard frost we will worm all the horses for Encysted Redworm usually at the end of December/early January depending on the weather.
