Lower Farm Stables in Lavendon. is a small family business which has been open since 1991. We are on the Beds/ Bucks/ Northants border. In the early days we were a BHS approved, award-winning riding school. Since 2005 however, we have solely operated as a Livery Yard and we are still going strong!
In recent years we have made large investments in the facilities, starting with a brand-new block of 12 stables in an enclosed yard. We designed and built the stables ourselves from scratch and as a result, we were able to incorporate many extra features to produce a truly unique yard. All of the stables are a minimum of 4m x 4m, have dual lighting, a tap and a large window giving your horse a choice of views!
Our large rug and feed rooms have plenty of space for all your bits and pieces, plus we have lockers for your valuables.
Our tack room is very secure and the whole site has a modern and fully working security system and fire alarm.
We even have a tea room with fridge, kettle and coffee machine.
Our outdoor arena is 20m x 45m, with large mirrors and a brand new Combi Ride surface which was installed in May 2024. We maintain it regularly and it rides very well. We have plenty of poles and show jumps too.
The hacking here is exceptional. The bridleway literally runs through the property and joins up with the Three Shires Way. There is no need to ride on the road at all.
We are also very proud of our paddock maintenance and have invested in new machinery so we can do all the necessary work ourselves. We aerate, rest and rotate grazing and have a robust ragwort removal policy which results in very little of it growing here. As a result, we can offer grazing all year round. The horses are grazed in groups of about 4. We don’t generally offer individual turnout believing that all horses should be entitled to the three “Fs” freedom, forage and friends.
Horses are turned out overnight in the summer and during the day in the winter. We don’t restrict turnout in the winter. We poo pick daily and the horses are all placed on a strategic worming programme using faecal egg counts.
We also offer regular pole, jumping and dressage clinics. Kate Gregory gained her first instructor qualification in 1987 and gained her BHSIsm certificate in 1999. She has vast experience with all types of horses and ponies and in all aspects of their care. She can also help with behavioural issues as well as riding lessons from beginner to advanced. She can also help with schooling issues and is happy to ride and train your horse if needed. During the summer months we hold other clinics and events with various coaches. We have had dressage to music sessions, trick training, working equation and rider biomechanics to name but a few.
Other facilities include a clipping/ shoeing/ wash down bay, security and fire alarms, cameras, hard surfaced car parks and clean toilets!
The yard is secure and gated with owners living on site.
The livery service we have available currently is 5 day, part or full livery. Both services include hay and bedding, mucking out, turning out and bringing in, picking out feet and rug changes.
We can offer a very high standard of care, horse welfare is central to everything we do.
