WHW Promotes Sustainable Equestrianism in New Webinar

World Horse Welfare (WHW) recently held a webinar on the topics of sustainability, with experts concluding that horse welfare and being environmentally friendly are intrinsically linked. This was one of the key messages taken from the most recent webinar in their Welfare Wednesday Webinar series.

The 80-minute webinar took place last week. The panel featured Ruth Dancer, director at White Griffin, and Jenny Fernando, World Horse Welfare director of finance and administration, and was chaired by the charity’s chief executive Roly Owers. The trio discussed what owners can do to ensure their horses are living as environmentally sustainably as possible.

This includes suggestions around energy and water conservation, renewable energy sources, reuse and recycling of products and waste products, and land management. Many were simple but effective changes that horse owners and yard owners can take to cut both costs and energy consumption to result in a more economically and environmentally friendly a yard.

“The most important thing is to start somewhere and do something. Don’t be overwhelmed and think you have to do it all”.

“Focus on the things you can control, do the things you can do and don’t think you have to do it all at once. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes,” was the conclusion of Ruth Dancer
