UK staycations have grown steadily in popularity since the Covid pandemic, and equestrians are very much part of that trend. Today, more than 3,000 holiday homes across the UK offer stabling or riding facilities, making it easier than ever for horse owners to enjoy a break without leaving their horses behind.
According to a new travel guide, The UK’s Best Horse-Friendly Staycations, compiled by equestrian specialist Harry Hall, the New Forest has been named the most popular destination for a horse-friendly holiday. Described as “the perfect backdrop for a relaxing hack or carriage ride”, the Hampshire destination topped the list thanks to its iconic landscapes and extensive riding opportunities.
Second place went to Escrick Park Estate in Yorkshire, with the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset taking third. The guide has been created to support the growing number of riders choosing to holiday at home with their horses, helping them decide where to go with confidence.
As well as highlighting places to stay and routes to ride, the guide evaluates destinations based on terrain variety, accessibility, and value for money. Riders are also encouraged to log any hacking completed while on holiday towards their #Hack1000Miles tally, adding an extra incentive to explore new areas.

Whether it’s galloping along golden beaches, tackling rugged uplands, or simply enjoying scenic countryside hacks, the UK offers a wealth of choice for horse and rider alike.”
