National Highways is running a survey to better understand equestrian experiences and perceptions of riding near motorways, A-roads, and drone operations.
National Highways is responsible for operating, maintaining, and improving motorways and major A-roads across England. As part of ongoing work to enhance safety and efficiency, they are exploring the use of drones. These may be used for tasks such as aerial surveys of roadside infrastructure, traffic data collection in areas with limited detection systems, and supporting incident monitoring and response.
All drone operations are carried out under strict safety rules and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations. However, National Highways recognises that drones may be seen or heard by horse riders using nearby bridleways and rights of way.
This survey aims to capture horse riders’ views, concerns, and experiences in order to help National Highways develop best practice guidance and minimise any potential impact of future drone use.
All responses are anonymous, and no personal data will be collected unless voluntarily provided. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.
