National Equine Forum Praised for Driving Industry Standards and Collaboration

The National Equine Forum (NEF) has once again been recognised for its role in bringing together leading voices from across the equestrian sector to share knowledge, challenge thinking and help drive improvements in standards across the industry.

The annual conference, held in March 2026, welcomed experts, organisations, welfare representatives, policymakers and businesses from across the horse world to discuss some of the key issues affecting horses, owners and professionals.

With support from sponsors representing charities, governing bodies, educational organisations and commercial businesses, NEF continues to provide an independent platform for discussion and collaboration on topics ranging from equine welfare and veterinary developments to infectious disease management, technology and the future of the sector.

The event’s strength lies in bringing together different areas of the equestrian community, allowing research, experience and practical knowledge to be shared and helping organisations identify opportunities to improve welfare, education and best practice.

Jan Rogers of The Horse Trust highlighted the value of the forum in allowing the sector to share ideas and consider new developments that can support better outcomes for horses.

Stewart Everett of Equine Register described NEF as an important annual opportunity for organisations to review progress, discuss challenges and consider future priorities.

The importance of collaboration across the industry was also recognised by British Horseracing Authority. James Given, Director of Equine Health and Welfare, highlighted the role of the conference in providing education, discussion and challenge to advance understanding of best practice.

Livery Industry Discussions Included in 2026 Programme

The 2026 programme also included discussion around the realities of the livery sector, with LiveryList founder Cheryl Johns contributing to the event’s Bitesize Sessions.

Her session focused on the livery industry and livery pricing, exploring the challenges faced by both yard owners and horse owners as the sector continues to navigate rising costs, changing expectations and the need for sustainable business models.

The inclusion of livery sector discussions reflects the growing recognition of the importance of livery yards within the wider equestrian industry and the need for informed conversations around the future sustainability of horse care provision.

Continuing to Support Progress Across the Sector

The National Equine Forum is organised by a volunteer committee and operates as a not-for-profit event, with its continued success supported by sponsors and contributors committed to advancing knowledge and collaboration throughout the industry.

NEF Chair Tim Brigstocke thanked sponsors for their ongoing support, recognising the important role they play in enabling the event to continue year after year.

Organising committee member Tullis Matson also highlighted that the forum provides both knowledge transfer and valuable networking opportunities, bringing together people from across the sector with a shared aim of improving the future of the horse industry.

By creating space for informed discussion and collaboration, the National Equine Forum continues to play an important role in supporting higher standards, better understanding and continued progress across the equestrian community.
