Industry Working Group Launches Sustainability Platform for Equestrian Sector

A coalition of leading equestrian organisations has come together to develop a free digital resource designed to support the industry in addressing environmental sustainability challenges and opportunities.

Launching in autumn 2026, The Hoofprint will offer equestrian organisations, venues, and individuals practical information, training, and inspiration to help them adapt their businesses, yards, and events into more resilient and sustainable operations.

Covering topics from rainwater harvesting and paddock management to renewable energy, muck handling, carbon footprint calculation, and tack repair, the platform aims to support every aspect of the sector.

Ruth Dancer of White Griffin, the project lead, said:
“In order to have a healthy sport, we need everyone to be able to survive and thrive in the changes that lie ahead. This collaboration is a recognition that together we can support one another in quickly adapting to both protect our industry and the natural world.”

The working group behind the initiative includes Agria, NAF, British Equestrian, British Showjumping, British Dressage, British Eventing, The Pony Club, World Horse Welfare, RDA, and ABRS+.

British Equestrian CEO Jim Eyre commented:
“It’s a core part of our federation-wide strategy to provide our members and the wider industry with the tools, knowledge and support needed to become resilient and sustainable. We want every individual to feel confident and inspired to make the changes necessary, and all of the organisations who’ve collaborated on this free-to-use resource are proud to be part of such an important project.”

Ahead of launch, White Griffin is inviting yard owners, businesses, and individuals who have already made positive environmental changes to share their experiences. These real-world examples will help inform and inspire others across the industry.

The team will also be travelling across the country over the summer to document existing sustainability initiatives, showcasing practical ways equestrians are already reducing environmental impact while improving efficiency and welfare.

In addition, a survey has been created to better understand what information equestrians want from the platform and to track ongoing changes within the industry as it moves towards more sustainable practice. Access the survey here and submit your entry to support the growth and future prosperity of the equestrian way of life.
