Another Successful Good Employment Week for the Equestrian Employers

Over the last week, the Equestrian Employers Association (EEA) have been promoting good employment practices via their annual Good Employment Week.

The aim is to encourage employers to treat their workers fairly, and meet legal obligations. This can help strengthen productivity, staff retention and morale.

The key messages for employers to take away are:

  • Provide a clear, comprehensive contract of employment
  • Pay correct wages adhering to National Minimum Wage (NMW) and National Living Wage (NLW)
  • Ensure your business insurance covers all activities carried out in the workplace
  • Prioritise health and safety provisions to keep everyone safe
  • Respect working time regulations
  • Promote a positive workplace culture built on respect and open communication

Good employment and the promotion of good business practices can help the livery industry for the better as well. Asx discussed by Lucy Katan, Director of the EEa

The concern I have is that the employers who operate their businesses in line with all legislations, from paying at least the NMW for every hour worked, to written contracts supplied on or before day one, having employers’ liability insurance, and complying with all health and safety laws, are being undercut by the yard down the road that doesn’t!

This is very damaging to our sector and must stop, or else we will not have equestrian businesses in the not-distant future – as they will not be viable.

There is a lot to consider when it comes to employing staff, so, to access all of the support you need,  join the Equestrian Employers Association (EEA). An organisation that was created to support employers and promote good employment practices within our industry.
