First Ever National SQP Week to Take Place in June 2026

The UK will celebrate the first ever National SQP Week from 5–12 June 2026, highlighting the vital role that Suitably Qualified Persons (SQPs)—also known as Animal Medicines Advisors—play in safeguarding the health and wellbeing of pets and livestock across the country.

The campaign, announced jointly by the industry regulators AMTRA, Vetpol, and VetSkill, aims to raise awareness of SQP expertise like never before. It invites participation from all stakeholders, including retailers, pharmaceutical companies, veterinary teams, animal owners, government bodies, and SQPs themselves.

To make engagement easy, a campaign toolkit will be released soon, featuring downloadable resources such as logos, posters, FAQs, and ideas for activations.

The campaign comes in response to an industry survey showing that awareness of SQP expertise is still limited, even among some veterinary and animal welfare professionals.

SQPs are particularly relevant for horse and yard owners. They provide expert guidance on worming and parasite control, vaccination protocols, nutritional supplements, and other essential equine medicines. By advising on the most effective products, appropriate dosing, and safe administration, SQPs help ensure that horses receive the best possible preventative care, contributing to overall herd health and reducing the risk of disease on yards and livery facilities.

Stephen Dawson, CEO of AMTRA, said:

“SQPs are highly qualified professionals, yet many people don’t fully understand their expertise or the benefits they provide. This campaign will help ensure SQP knowledge is fully utilised to improve animal health across the UK.”

Caroline Johnson, Director of Vetpol, added:

“SQPs are a trusted source of advice on medicines and wider animal welfare. They give owners choice and guidance, and we’re delighted to work with AMTRA and VetSkill to raise the profile of their role.”

Stakeholders are encouraged to mark their calendars, spread the word, and start planning activities to celebrate SQPs during the week.
