The British Horse Society Launches Hoof Care Access Survey

To help safeguard the access to hoof care and farriery in the UK, the British Horse Society (BHS) is running a survey to find out about access and availability of farrier and hoofcare professionals.

As a vital part of equine routine care, the BHS would like to know about your routine hoof care and your experiences when accessing farriery and hoofcare provider services for equids under your care over the previous year.

Access to farriery training and apprenticeships is very much part of succession planning for the hoof care industry. They are looking to assess the availability of qualified farriers in the UK and Republic of Ireland. This will allow us them work in partnership with other equine welfare charities and the industry to make access to the profession easier for all equid owners.

This is of particular importance to the owners of equestrian establishments such as livery yards and riding schools where the proprietors may be responsible for the welfare and hoof care of multiples equines in their care, and who need to be able to assure access to these services both on a regular and emergency basis.

Please help them by completing the short survey if you:

  • Are over 18 year old
  • Reside in the UK or Republic of Ireland
  • Own or care for a horse, pony, donkey and/or mule

The survey should take approximately 5 minutes to complete, and is open until 1st September 2024: FARRIERY QUESTIONNAIRE

If you have any questions or concerns about the survey, please contact: dee.pollard@bhs.org.uk
